In several isolated residential areas in Morocco, thousands of families lived with the same daily challenge: the lack of lighting on streets, roads and public spaces. The absence of lighting brought nightlife to a standstill at dusk, creating insecurity, limiting mobility and hindering daily activities. In rural areas and areas far from the electricity grid, darkness was not only uncomfortable, but a real barrier to social and economic development.
Ihe possibility of conventional solutions
Installing a traditional lighting system in these residential areas was unfeasible. The distances, the dispersion of the inhabited centres and the costs of civil works made it impossible to deploy wiring or electrical connections. This was compounded by the economic limitations of the municipalities and the maintenance that a conventional infrastructure would require. The lack of electricity perpetuated the inequality between urban and rural areas, further isolating these communities.
612 INFINITY solar streetlights through a partner
The answer came in the form of a large-scale project developed together with a partner: the installation of 612 SAT solar street lights by Staria. Designed for rural areas and off-grid environments, these luminaires provided autonomy and endurance in demanding climatic conditions.
Each SAT operates independently, capturing solar energy during the day and guaranteeing light during the night. Their robustness and reliability allow for stable performance even in periods of low solar irradiance, common in certain seasons.
The benefits were clear:
Safer streets and roads for thousands of residents.
Zero power consumption and reduced maintenance costs.
Quick and efficient installation, without the need for prior infrastructure.
Social development by extending hours of activity in the communities.
Today, these isolated residential areas have a modern and sustainable street lighting system for the first time. Working together with our partner, the project became a benchmark for how solar energy can transform the lives of the most remote communities.
