Ua housing estate with dark streets

In the Los Cauquenes housing development in Patagonia, Argentina, residents faced a daily problem: the lack of lighting in their streets and common areas. The absence of streetlights reduced safety, made night-time commuting uncomfortable and detracted from the value of the development, especially in a region where long nights and a demanding climate accentuate the need for reliable lighting.

Insafety and limitations of conventional lighting

Opting for a traditional lighting system was not feasible. The work to install wiring and electrical connections was a very high investment and difficult for the community to afford. Added to this was the ongoing cost of electricity and regular maintenance, which in such a large environment and extreme weather conditions became a major burden. The lack of lighting was not only an aesthetic inconvenience: it had a direct impact on road and pedestrian safety for residents.

113 Luxia solar streetlights to transform the urbanisation

The answer came with the installation of 113 Luxia solar streetlights from Staria, designed to bring efficiency and design to urban and residential environments. Thanks to their autonomy, each luminaire operates independently, capturing energy during the day and providing constant light at night, even in conditions of low solar irradiance typical of the Patagonian climate.

The benefits were immediate:

    • Reinforced security in streets and accesses to the development.

    • Significant cost reduction by eliminating electricity consumption.

    • Quick installation, no invasive building work or wiring.

    • Stable and reliable performance all year round, even in demanding climates.

Today, Los Cauquenes is an example of how solar lighting can transform the life of a community. Its streets and common spaces are now illuminated, providing safety, comfort and a more welcoming and sustainable environment for all neighbours.
